For $134, this baby looks nice. If this thing is built to survive tricks and hard landings on concrete, then this thing will survive four trips a day [to and from work and lunch] for years to come.

The headlight was bought seperately.


Excellent brake system. This can make the bike stop dead on the tracks real quick [I nearly flew off].


Nice barrels.


I don't switch gears very often. I liked the single gear. Besides, simpler is better.


Chromed peddles. I bet they can hold up against GI-Issue combat boots.

BTW. The headlight comes with four settings [Hi Beam, Lo Beam, and Blue light] and is rechargable.

Id strongly advise against doing any tricks with that bike, those things are horrible.

Mongoose! haha, yep it will break...and true "trick" bikes dont have "headlights"

you need a Schwinn or something that costs more that $100...my Schwinn Hyrdromatic costed me $850

3 or 4? What kind of hell did you put those things through? Now, if they didn't belong to you, I assume the people who owned them probably didn't take care of them. But the fact that you wreck 3 or 4 makes me think otherwise.

Besides, I have yet to see any wrecked bike in my lifetime. I have friends who owned these kind of bikes and I have yet to see anyone wreck it. That's because they maintained them as all bike owners should. My old one got ruined because I didn't take care of it.

As for the other references, in my first major accident I was wrecked more than the bike; it was a steep downhill on a gravel road -- no brakes (thanks to my dad not securing the arm of my coaster brake) -- and the bike was retrieved (and brake secured) some while after I'd regained consciousness and got help. The second time I wound up walking about three miles, having mangled the front rim after flipping over a fallen limb I encountered around a corner (again, on a downhill). The last major spill was in 2003 and, again, I got more scrapes than the bike (Schwinn) but was able to, a little painfully, continue the remaining mile to destination. Admittedly, I may not have gotten so scraped up if I weren't so intent upon protecting the bike.
Three accidents, three different bikes, but bikes and operator survived all but the ravages of time.

yes, maintainence makes all the difference.

i sent my bike through hell, and i bought it used for $230. since i maintained it, it lasted me 4 1/2 years. all it needs is new tires, and the gears need to be fixed again.

but i've been in 5 accidents and at least 40 run-ins with poles, walls, anything that got in my way. and the has nothing me than a new scratches. (since i keep fixing it)

just follow your own advice, maintain it.

LOL, its a mongoose.....that's why I wouldn't trust it. I used to ride BMX and race with Redlines Etc. old school. That mongoose prolly weighs 10 pounds lmao. $134 omg ripped. I would only suggest doing Flatland type freestyle and look at pro jumping bikes before you use that varient of the bike. Because Jumping/Racing bikes are set up diffierentlly. Also, BMX bikes can be very fast If their light. I like to go on and on about your new bike but it's just a "MONGOOSE" lmao.

I would be careful with what you just said, if I were you. My duffle bag is about half my total body weight [I'm 145 LBS] an I remember having to march in formation with back when I was in Basic Military Training [BMT]. Don't forget that I have also driven a bike for the past two years and I have lifted weights that were far heavier than the bike. So, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if I outran Lance Armstrong.

10 LBS? Pfft... that's as light as a feather to me. Also, just because it's a Mongoose doesn't mean that it's crap. Oh, and by the way, $134 is not a rip-off for someone like me. I don't have to pay for gas, I don't have to pay the electric bill, water bill, I don't have to pay rent, and I don't have to pay sales tax for items sold on base either.

When restricted to my feet or the bike, you've got me on two of the five; as well as the gas(oline) savings, water is included with the rent and NH doesn't have a sales tax (and, so far, hasn't applied its luxury tax to bicycles).

Its not that they didnt take care of them, its that mongoose is not the best bike in the world, after you ride a good bmx bike you'll never go back.

dont grind or jump the thing higher than 4 feet and it will be fine

Well, In my opinion it's a piece of junk. If you like it thats great. I've been raceing and riding BMX for 5 yrs. I know from experience that the bike shown is mainly used for flatland riding from point A to point B. And reading your statement from my reply thats fine, just for you. I prolly could also gotten a better deal. I mean,....It's a great starter bike for learning but not very experienced and known. And I do whatch what I say, Becuase I have knowledge and experience with bikes. So we all do, "Respect".!!

Katahu .......... enjoy your bike.... no matter what it cost. Personally a BMX isn't my style .... never was.

As for those debating its merits ...... I get the feeling it isn't going to be used for doing stunts on ...so your opinions aren't relevent.  :-X

I have a Giant Cypress DX that I use to get to school.  IT has faired fairly well, except for the time that the gear line broke, the innertube got a pinch leak, the rear tire died, the front tire died....yeah....its been thru hell.

I had a mongoose  never liked it and i rode only on pavement and flat dirt. Just dont like the bike not shure why but i'm more into mountian bikeing which, by the way, is kinda boring in the desert lol  there are mountains to the north south east and west (i'm in Tucson vally nice place sometimes.) but i never get to go up there  never have time... well hey maby tomarrow...
