What aviation (if any) can you see from...

Postby F3Hadlow » Wed Jan 04, 2006 5:52 pm

.. your home (not counting contrails).
Just thought this might be an interesting topic. The best I get to see are all the airliners on finals to Newcastle International Airport along with the, quite often military visitors. The ILS is 7 miles south although occasionally some aircraft cut in from the north right over the top (yes I was bored enough to take a pic one day).

What can you see?

Feel free to move this topic mods if it's in the wrong place, I jsut thought since there might be photos posted this would be best.

I havnt any pics (yet) but I live (non-term time) almost under the approach to BAE Systems Warton, so its Typhoon, Harrier, Tornado, Hawk, Nimrod, C-130 and the BAE companty jets, BAE146 and BAE125! Then theres odd visitors like an AN124!! (ok so I saw that one at school in the same village)

+ the raf traffic going to the lakes (via my term time home at university) including tucano and chinook.

Cant think of any more I've seen.

Got a new camera for x-mas so hopefully some photos one day!!

Not much here where I live in Uganda, although the occasional UN L-100(C-130), low flying 737-300/200 Kenya airways and of course the occasional GA a/c, where I live when I'm in Belgium, lots of turboprops like Dash-8 and ATR's on their approaches to Deurne(Antwerp). :) ;)

From my house? I'm lucky if I see any GA aircraft, but since the airport is only a couple miles away, I can hear small prop aircraft flying in the vicinity

Every now and again on the approach to Liverpool (EGGP) these will fly by and do a simulated landing (i'm right on the flightpath):

E3A Sentry, Tornado GR4, Jaguar, Harriers, Hawks, Lynx, Gazelle, (every once or twice a year) Spitfire Hurricane and Lancaster, F-15, Tucano, C-130,

as well as various Vintage aircraft that are resident's at the airport............. especially the DC3.

Seakings and Merlins. Mostly of the latter now since the former started to retire.

Regular flypasts from the DHFS Single Squirrels and Griffons at Shawbury. The odd Chinook and Hercules, a very occasional Apache, and at Cosford time we sometimes get a Red Arrows display.

We also have a regular run of GA stuff from the local flying school at Sleap.

When I'm out walking the dog I get a view of the contrails of airliners leaving what I presume is Liverpool......

Lets see...Never have a cammera handy :-[

Not to much around here anyways.  Depending on the runway use at FWA we get the ocasional 727 from Kitty Hawk Cargo, and now their new 737s.  Unfortunatly they are still pretty far up but you can still make out what they are and hear them.  Live pretty close to Grissom ARB.  Seen anything from the A-10s to the C-130s.  Most of the time they are high up.  But one of my summer jobs had me in the open fields just outside town.  The A-10s would come over every day and sometimes do manuvers right over our heads (litteraly...you could sometimes feel the heat :o )....again...no cammera around ::) You will get the showoff pilots from Grissom if your out in the open.  They seem to like giving mini airshows ;)  Even had F-16s once...but they were most likely from FWA :P

There's a guy who works at the local airport who's son or son-in-law is a high ranking officer in the Air Force who flies C-130s out of Mountain Home AFB. Every once in a while(once or twice a year), he will be in the area and will 'buzz' the airstrip 8)

Glad you asked...:D
I've been bombing this forum with pics from my windows for some time now; I'm about 2 miles from the 04/22 centerline at KEWR. They occasionally come right over the building, but never when I'm on the roof with the camera.  ::)
Here's a sampler from just the last few months: occasionally I get a decent shot of a plane on final for 29, as in the top left shot. The others are all on final for 22, probably 22R. The chopper was placing that pole atop a building in downtown Newark, just north of my place. Lots of zooming here, of course, but with the naked eye one can make out type and airline pretty easily just sitting in the living room or my bedroom looking out the big windows.

I've been waiting to spot an AN124 in the air; it's been parked on the field for a couple of days at least. Never seen one here before. Listening to the scanner right now to hear mention of a Volga-Dnepr flight... nothing yet, just the usual stuff:
"Continental 1501, contact departure..."
"Continental 1438... which gate you at?..."
"Continental 1429, clear to land 4 right, caution wake turbulence departing 757..."
Busy tonight... ;D

Tornado F3/Gr4
Jaguar (this was back in 2004 - it was INCREDIBLY low!!!
C-130 Hercules
Chinook
Army/Navy Lynx
RAF Gazelles
BAe Hawks
Westland Seakings
Merlins (not the WWII engine Ozzy; the helicopter :P :D)
BAe Harrier FA2's and GR7's
De Havilland Dash 8 Q300 (I think it's Q300?)

Depends on wind direction and time of day

Standard stuff on approach to Schiphol, and sometimes a low 747 at night
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur
