Got em both. I'll keep quiet though to give others a chance. :)

You must realize that many of us who visit the "V" here, have been very interested (read "infatuated" or "consumed") with aviation for 30-40 or more years.... ;)

.........long before the advent of the internet, we had to read and look at pictures for our "FIX".......... 8)

Being in your age group Rifleman, and being interested (maybe not infatuated) with aviation for most of my life I can sincerely relate to where you're coming from. I've got to find a new gear in these quizzes to really "test the obsessed".. ;)

Since no one else is replying with an answer:

1 is Capr oni Camprini, first jet aircraft.
2 is Etrich A-11 Taube

Nonononono....

The first "jet" aircraft as we know it was the Heinkel He178 of 1939.

The Caproni-Caprini first flew in 1940 and was not a "jet" aircraft as such (a "jet" being an engine where the air is compressed, the fuel air mixture ignited in a combustion chamber and expelled via a series of turbines). The Caproni-Caprini was in effect a souped-up ducted fan. A 900hp internal combustion (piston) engine powered a 3-stage axial compressor. The air was then heated by external burners and allowed to expend through a bernoulli "jet". (ie the only combustion of fuel and air was in the piston engine). This followed on from earlier Caproni ducted fan/propeller designs.
