I think you're right. Google image search seems to produce some fairly similar matches.

US aircraft. Four bladed prop. Note the upward crank in the wings. Wheels on the inside of the main gear struts.

Douglas Dauntless has my vote. Maybe modded.

I'm backing Charlie on this one. I was going to say Vultee myself but decided against as I couldn't dig up any possibles.

As was the normal war-time practice, design studies were requested from companies without a major production model and, with the Navy's acceptance of the proposal from the F----t----s company, the design was designated..........
