Cleaned your computer lately?

Postby beaky » Sat Jan 07, 2006 5:26 pm

I know I've been spamming lately, but these shots couldn't wait. Consider this a cautionary tale:

I decided to tidy up the cables, etc. around the ol' PC today... probably a good idea, don't you agree? ;D

Image

Once I'd freed up the tower, i figured I'd also clean out the computer. took the sides off and- GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING!!! MICE!!!! They'd gotten in thru one of the two uncovered PCI slots... I really shouldn't have left those open...

Image

My hard drives- my beautiful hard drives!!! Nnoooooo.... they crapped and peed on them... and God knows what else!!! Ew!! Eww!!!

Image

Of course I had to inspect all cables... why you little...!!!
Not too bad, but amazing there were no shorts. If I'd caught one of the little buggers in here, I'd have pinched his little head until it popped. I have no problem with mice, and can even forgive them getting into the provisions if they're left out... but mess with my computer and you've got a war on your hands...

Image

Adding insult to injury, a dead centipede... has it really been that long since I cleaned my rig?

Image

So now I'm in a cleaning frenzy...scrubbing, disassembling...gosh, do you think my graphics card might work better without the giant dust bunnies crammed in around the fan? I feel so ashamed...

Image

Good opportunity to properly dress everything; and a little tape on the frayed power cables... Yes, I tried a round floppy cable, but it didn't work for some reason, so I'm stuck with the ribbon. I'd ditch the floppy drive altogether, but I occasionally use it for work-related stuff. After about 2 hours, to paraphrase the little lady from Poltergeist:
"This rig is clean..."
And secure: Maz had a coupla PCI slot covers; the little monsters won't be getting in there again, unless they want to try gnawing through the plastic front cover.

Image

Finally I get to the task I'd intended: cable management. Looks much better now!!

Happy to oblige... I felt I should swallow my pride and confess all, for the good of the community.  ;)
...and I get the feeling that PC towers all over SimV-dom are at this moment being opened, ...  :D

Indeed. I'd only seen them in my room for the first time this winter, but always figured they were en route to the kitchen, as I never found any sign of them in here... until that wful moment when i looked inside my tower- still freaked-out over that.
But those days are over... a good snap-trap, baited with bacon and peanut butter... heh heh heh....

HAHA! I love the dead centipede. ;D

I open up my computer every now and then just to go "Oooohhh" before closing it up again. Mainly cause once i've opened it I don't know what to do with it's insides. ;D

I've been wondering what to do with my A Level work... Seems as good a solution as any I suppose. ;D

Jeez Rotty. I opened mine today  :o You'd have a brown mark on your pants after you saw the inside of mine. I couldn't see inside it was so dirty. The dust bunnies were all over. But finally I got everything out and now the ol' PC is running as good as when I got it. I think Im going to do this every 6 months or so, cause man my computer is flying now.
