I saw this wonderful instrument while shopping in town today. Looks like a miniature pipe organ so I thought it would suit our Foz admirably. It sounded beautiful when this chap played it but I'm not sure Paul would have the puff. ;D

It's an ancient Chinese mouth organ named a sheng. Well, I don't expect this one's ancient but I'm sure you understand what I mean. ;)

That little old lady suddenly appeared while I was taking the photo. I had no idea she was there until I got home & looked at the shot. ::) :D

Lol, the ladies face. :o It looks like she is pointing at him and asking, Can you tell that guy to pack that din in? ;D

Never heard of the instrument. I'm going to look it up on google.

Doesn't sound anything like the one in my photo either. That clip sounds more like a percussion instrument. ::)

Looks like a Bong...no wonder its making such a strange noise.

Cool photo, tho Doug- Chinese or Asian instruments in general do interest me.

Now that's a pretty impressive instrument! Isn't it wonderful that we can enjoy all these types of exotic music  and instruments, just by going into town? Although I'm not to sure that lady in the back would agree...  ;D

Doug, thanks alot for that link... It gave me an answer I've been searching for for several years now. About 6 or 7 years ago, I went to a cultural concert-series in Gent. There were several styles of traditional music, but I was swept away by one musician that played a oboe-like instrument and he produced the most heavinly, kinda emotional music... That link showed me what instrument it was. The duduk. It has the most wonderful sound. I even think it was Djivan Gasparian, descrived in the article, that performed, cause the organizers made a big deal out of it... just listen to the sample! So thanks again Doug!

listen to the duduk

Cheers,

Omag

Hi Doug...!
Thanks for the heads-up... ;)...!
Fascinating. I would love to have heard it...!

I am an avid collector, (and player), of all sorts of musical instruments, indeed, I have one room in my house filled with them, from Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical to modern times, that I have collected over the years...!
I play most of them at every opportunity... :)...!

Great enjoyment... ;D...!

Hand me a musical instrument, and I will have a go at playing it...!
LOL...!
Cheers all......!

Paul... 8)...!

Although very ancient, I have always been surprised that there is such a poor collection of Far Eastern instruments which have not progressed very far, compared to the large variety, and range, of instruments in Europe throughout the ages...including the magnificent pipe organs dating from Medieval times...!
