Continuing my little tour of Arundel & the surrounding area. This is Arundel Castle, seat of the Duke of Norfolk (Earl Marshal of England & a member of one of England's most prominent families, the Fitzalan-Howards directly related to Anne Boleyn & Catherine Howard). It was extensively restored to its present condition by the 15th Duke in the late 19th Century. Unfortunately the castle & grounds are now closed to the public until next season so we can't go in for a look round.
Image

Looking north from the last shot towards Swanbourne Lake & the Black Rabbit pub. This avenue of trees is usually a riot of colour at this time of year but the remaining leaves are still green. Maybe there's something to this Gobal Warming after all. ::)
Image

A view of the lake set in typical rolling South Downs scenery. Note the white path which is the same chalk as the famous White Cliffs of Dover. This area is very popular with tourists during the summer months & weekends at this time of year.
Image

Onward to the Black Rabbit pub. A delightful spot alongside the River Arun with the white chalk of the Downs showing in the background. The pub was packed or I would have stopped here for something to eat.
Image

A view from the river bank. A nice old village church nestling in the countryside. I'm not sure which village this is but the church is very similar to many others in Sussex & probably Norman.
Image

That's all I have room for as these images are so graphics intensive. Hope you enjoyed my brief tour of Arundel. On the way home I popped into Littlehampton harbour to see what was going on at the seaside.

Wonderful photos Doug, all it needs is a Spit flying over the castle to bring this collection to perfection ;) ;D

Glad you like them. This scenery is so familiar to me that it's easy to forget that others might be interested. Nothing dramatic as in some parts of the world but the first sight of those rolling Downs still takes my breath away every time I return from other places. It also means I'll soon be home. It is quiet out in the country but this area is usually more crowded than it looks in my shots. I went on a weekday & the busy tourist season is over for another year.

Thanks Craig. The mower is fine but you have to get your priorities right. The grass will still be there next week, if a tad longer. :D

Nice shots Doug. That pub has dissolved all will I had to cook tonight. I'd much rather get someone to do it for me... :)
