Lovely engines. Amazing to think though that that Merlin III would produce a little over 1000hp. The Tucano gets 1051hp from something quarter of the size (if that)!

It is amazing but somehow it never had quite the same appeal to me as a Merlin at full chat.

Reliable as it is I don't think the Typhoon would have been a Typhoon with a Merlin.

Yes I doubt the poor old Merlin could get a fully loaded Typhoon off the ground Maybe a Griffon then

Me too although I somehow doubt I will ever have that pleasure. Don't think I've even heard a decent recording of one.

Charlie is quite right the 605 was in the rack above the Merlin 60 and looking a wee bit lonely surrounded by British metal

I got a rather poor shot of that 605 if anyone's interested.
