FBF part 2

I was here only once years ago: I forgot that one can drive willy-nilly all over the old ramps, runways, and taxiways. Cool!!
But beware: the posted speed limit is 25mph, and yes, "Smokey" is hiding out, ready to bust you. But I'm in no big hurry, and what's the fun of rolling fast down a runway if you're not going to fly?

Well, now... they must've known I was coming- I believe those are some unloved, unwanted old P&W "corncobs" over there. I know this was nobody's favorite engine, but it's sad to see them abandoned like this, out in the weather. And quite a surprise: it's not like there's a museum here or anything.
This was taken thru a fence- I can only wonder what else might be in that hangar...

When I got out of the car to take that last pic, I thought I heard someone playing the drums. Very odd. I followed the sound, and behind a patch of brush and small trees, I discovered...

What do blimps have to do with drums? Observe. I really should have gone over and talked to this guy, but he was busy practicing, and it sounded like he needed it... ;)  ;D

Another view of the Fuji blimp moored to its mobile tower...

Very strange and wonderful to see a cricket match and a drum-playing blimp-wrangler (?) here... to think I might've just driven straight home and missed it all!
Next: One More Set!!

Nice shots of the Blimp.  That's pretty neat that you can
just drive around there.

Yeah, it's nice- I'd forgotten one can do that.
Seeing as how the field is closed (note the big "X") and people have to cross the field from the road to get to the fishing areas, boat ramps, RC field, etc., it makes sense that there's be vehicle access (this place is BIG!). Guess it's cheaper to leave every paved area wide open rather than erecting barriers to confine the traffic... and I'm gonna look into my theory that these runways are left intact and clear for possible emergency use by flghts from JFK...

Indeed. Some of the best things happen by pure accident when you least expect it. Just think of what you would have missed had you decided to go the easy way home. ;)

West Indians playing cricket eh? Maybe you should have stopped a little longer & watched how a real game is played. :P ;D

Very nice photos once again old chap. Now you've got the hang of that new camera I'm looking forward to your next visit to ORA. You might just have time for another visit before the end of the season. ;)

I saw that blimp at a Yankee game last year. :)

Good shots, Rotty. Sound like another place to bug dad to take me to. ::)

I always thought that it was locked up.
