COAM Part 4

Postby beaky » Sun Sep 25, 2005 11:35 pm

I'm a big fan of the DC3 and all its spinoffs, so this was exciting: the nose of a C47. I was so eager to look inside and take pictures, I didn't bother to read the info. Probably has some interesting stories to tell...

One of my better no-flash pics, edited slightly... the "office" of the venerable C47. Looks very familiar; I've been flying aDC3 around the world in FS9 the past few weeks. Unfortunately, this cockpit is off-limits; no sitting in the seats. The good news? No plexi wall, so it can be photgraphed, at least...

This is a 62% scale fiberglass flight demonstrator of the Republic T-46, a proposed next-generation military trainer, flown for over 20 hours at Mojave, California, by Dick Rutan in 1981. Budget cuts pulled the plug on the project in '86.
Looks like Dick's asleep...wake up!!   ;D

There will eventually be a very nice outdoor display area here; it's not open yet, so I took a few snaps thru a chain-link fence. Here's a tired-looking E-2C; there's also a Tracker way in the back that once served aboard USS Intrepid. The A10 and F14 will later join the rest of the gang in the "aerospace park".

An F84-F Thunderstreak; needs a real canopy but otherwise looking pretty good.

One more set from COAM on the way!
