Old age takes it's toll on pictures as well as the body..... ;D

I know my old bod has been torn, ripped, battered and generally beat to crap most of my life.....

It barely survived the dreaded Hun, muddy trench warfare, grenades, bombs, Howitzer shells, showers of bullets. the platoon Sergeant...
....and ferocious Frauleins...
Whilst carrying the photo in my back-pack...!

LOL, a motley crew indeed... :D!!
No mistaking you in that pic... ;D
How old were you when you joined up, and how long was your hitch?
Reminds me: given any more thought to trying to develop those old rolls of film?

Hi Rotty... ;D...!

Joined up?...JOINED UP?... :o...!

We didn't "Join Up"...we were all dragged kicking and screaming into the Forces....
..Called "National Service", for two years of our delicate lives...!

Most of us were civvy apprentice tradesmen at the time, with no particular wish to die for our country, so we got deferred until we finished our 5 year apprentishships, so most of us were aged around 20/21 at the time we were hijacked into the Army and transported to foreign lands to be attacked by malaria, beri-beri, poisonous snakes, crocodiles, people mumbling strange languages.....
...and ferocious Frauleins ... ;)...!

We all had our precious calendars, on which we ticked off every day until our glorious demob...JOY... ;D...!

The Army claimed that we National Servicemen made the best soldiers, because we made the most of it, did the job to the best of our abilities, and then got out...
...whereas the regular soldiers were in it just for the skive... ;)...!

The Officers were always impressed with us... 8)...!

So...

I was stuck in it for 2 years, 1955 - 1957, went home and back to my civvy trade, as did we all... 8)...!

Getting shot, or blown-up, was an activity none of us wished to encourage...thank-you very much... ;)... ;D...!

LOL...!

Cheers all...!

What an 'orrible lot. :o :P ;D

A little time in PSP (or Photoshop) could make that old photo as good as new, if not better. Restoring old photos was my hobby before getting involved in this FS lark. I've fixed far worse than than in my time. Can't do much about the faces so you're stuck with the ones you had.* :P :D

PS. This was a long time ago & I couldn't do it now.

*PPS. I could always make you look like film stars if you wish. "The camera never lies" is a complete fallacy.

Left is my dear old Dad, 1926: Yorks and Lancs Regiment, on his trusty bike..!
Middle: Fozzer, 1955 REME. Home on leave, with my daughter.
Right: Dad again posing in his best uniform, 1926.

Dad was posted to India and spent all his Army time there, he loved the country.

Cheers all...!

You're lucky to have those old photos. Foz Senior looks quite a character.

Most of mine were lost long ago & I didn't have many to start with. I might hunt down the ones I have left & post them here. I'll have to put a disclaimer in the subject line. It could easily cause untold harm to innocent kiddies & some unsuspecting adults. I take no reponsibilty for damage to your monitor. :o :D

A pic is indeed worth a thousand words. Thanks for sharing them.

I fear that many of todays digital pics will be lost to future generations as backups are lost, assuming there even is a backup.

A pic that migh be a "throw away" pic and erased in today's digital photography world might be tomorrow's treasure, if only it was not erased.  There is much to be said about good ol' fashioned phoptography.
