Duxford BoB Airshow part 3

Postby 61_OTU » Mon Sep 12, 2005 4:09 pm

Some final views of the show from last Saturday

Up close and personal, love that prop

Image

The best focused shot I got of these guys, going the right speed for my camera focus and shutter

Arty closeup

Charlie in a few years time? Alternative method of carrying out a pre-flight I suppose

Image

Some shots from the American Air Museum....amazing place. I always thought these were bigger

Image

A wider view, name the planes?

Nice shots Steve. I love RN201, the best Spitfire in the World if you ask me ;D

Lol! I hope so. Couldn't be me though - I'd be wandering round with my camera looking at "more proper" aeroplanes... ;D

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Name the planes!

1. dead center A-10 Warthog

2. dual wing prop hanging to the left upper portion of the picture is a Sopwith

3. In the background a p51 mustang

4. I see the wing and engines of a b2 bomber

The bi-plane is a Spad and the bomber is a B-52 ;)

I can see a B-24 & B-17. Also a U-2 & P-47. The red & white striped rudder could belong to a Stearman. Forget what the one is in the foreground. Could be an F-111. :-/

PS. Cheating really as I've been in the museum several times.

The props away to the front are the b17 and the tailplane with a Y is a b29 I think?

And yes F-111 in the foreground

Yep. No one's noticed the Dakota in the middle of the photo yet!

You can just make out the Avenger too.

The P-51 (sort of) doesn't count - it's plastic! ;D

You're quite correct of course. If I remember correctly the B-17 is now suspended from the ceiling.* Not sure it's visible in this photo. They have an awful lot of aeroplanes packed in that hangar. Maybe too many.

*PS. Or perhaps not. :-/ I think they have a scenario with mechanics working on the engines. Waxworks, not real ones.

The largest aircraft that are on the ceiling are the C-47, B-25, Avenger and the F-100. :)

[quote]Also right in the front of the picture under the wing of that b-52 is a F111 with radar jamming probe on the tailwing!
