Pride Of Baltimore II Wrecked in Tall Ship's Race

Hi all,

Some of you may remember my post last week about the 'Tall Ship's Race' from Torbay to Santander. (Here)
Well unfortunately the ships ran into some pretty foul weather on the way & many have had to abandon the race. Alas, my favourite (& race leader at the time) 'Pride of Baltimore II' suffered some extensive damage & a de-masting as a result, fortunately no-one was hurt.

Here's the old girl on Friday 2nd September:

& here she was on Tuesday 6th September:

Such a shame to see her all smashed up.

Here's the report.

Cheers,

TSC.

That is a shame. Think I saw this ship at the Festival of the Sea not long ago. My one regret was not seeing any of them in full sail. That must be a magnificent sight.

She's still afloat so I expect she can be repaired. Once all that debris is cleared away it might not be as bad as it looks.

Glad to hear nobody was hurt... what a job it must have been getting that mess into port...!  ::) Very lucky the mast just missed the cockpit... I wonder, was it towed in or were they able to steer her under motor power?
She needs a lot of work, but yes, as long as she's floating, there's a good chance...

Hi TSC :):

Well she is still afloat....that is a good sign. ;)

All great ships go through a turbulent time during their lifespan.

Me thinks she will be around for a long, long, long time.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Meh! Thats nothing! The rowing boat I crashed had huge gashes in it, a few big holes, but its still winning races!
Dont worry, chaps, the boat will live....just the poor pilot who wont...nevertheless, we'll be seeing her sail again!
