Here's the best of the rest. Shoreham on air show days is not ideally situated for my type of photography. The bright sunshine makes it difficult to see anything coming from the left in the digital viewfinder & this gets worse as the show progresses. (Had the same problem at Biggin the day before.) I took a break with the camera & enjoyed the show. A very nice relaxing day out in pleasant company. ;)

A few Spits for Mark & Roger.

Very shiny Mustang. Beautiful.

I thought these were worth a shot.

The Aerostars for Crumbso. A tad untidy in the blustery conditions but the best I can do.

The art deco terminal building after the show. Only one of its type left in the country & used to represent Croydon in many films & TV period dramas. The only addition since being opened in 1936 is the modern control tower on top of the original building. One of my favourite spots is halfway up the staircase on the right. I'm not allowed any further.

Nice shots Doug.

I've never seen a B-17 outfitted with a smokesystem before.

And what a clean-looking Catalina!

Wonderful, thanks for that ;)

I believe that Catalina is actually a Sheep in Wolves clothing as it used to be a civilian Cat, judging that is by the lack of front turret and un-ribbed observation blisters. Still a beautiful shiny bird though and a joy to behold.

I believe I may have seen you there Doug but didn't want to make a tit of myself in case it wasn't you lol.

Cheers,

Pete

You should have taken a chance. My friend picked me out in the crowd so I'm not difficult to spot. I was wearing my usual scruffy puce-coloured cap with Aviall written on it. Once seen. never forgotten. :o ;)

The Cat (actually a Canso) served with the RCAF during WWII. It's all bright & shiny as it's recently been repainted. I was told the blisters were specially made & not the original design. Its last job was as a firefighter & painted yellow until a couple of months ago. Here's a brief history & more photos. http://www.catalina.org.uk/latest_news.htm
C-FNJF was originally ordered for the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Canso A amphibian, basically equivalent to the US Navy PBY-5A. It was built by Canadian Vickers at Cartierville, Quebec and was allocated their constructors number CV-283 before adopting the RCAF serial 11005. It was taken on charge by the air force on 27 October 1943 and initially saw service with 9 (Bomber Reconnaissance) Squadron at Bella Bella on the British Columbia coast between Vancouver and Prince Rupert. It was on their inventory from November to the following August. 9 Squadron had been based at Bella Bella for some time prior to the arrival of Cansos, having operated Supermarine Stranraers there. The Cansos were mainly operated from water despite their amphibious undercarriages and were used on day and night patrols, looking out for enemy submarines. By mid-1944, the threat of a Japanese invasion of Western Canada had receded and it was decided to disband 9 Squadron and close the station at Bella Bella. The Cansos, including 11005, were flown to Alliford Bay in the Queen Charlotte Islands, also in British Columbia, and transferred to 7 (BR) Squadron in August. The job was the same – anti-submarine patrols mostly – and 11005 remained with 7 Sqn until it too was disbanded on 25 July 1945. During this period of 11005’s service, it would have flown with an overall matt white hull and upper surfaces, the lower hull being gloss white.

TD248 looking good in its new colours. I think it looks better than the silver and red sceme myself.
A great collection of shots pal, I enjoyed seeing the Biggin shots also. Hope to see some of your Duxford shots next weekend ;D
