Very nice bunch of pictures. You must explain: why are they all named "Christoph"? Is that an ATC designation, a pilot tradition, or what?

oh, wow that's a question, I've never thought of it
well, let me Explain

All Rescue vehikels have numbers and "region / area" names

You can Hear over radio (example Fire brigade)

Florian Ennepe 4 / 83 /1 for Florian Ennepe

Florian is the Patron of the fire fighters
Ennepe is the area (a small River)
4/ 84 / 1 is one of our paramedics
and Florian Ennepe  is the operation control center

so, Christoph is the Patron of the HEMS (Helicopter Emergencs medical Service)
in Austria its Christophorus

and the number  is the station

8 is Luenen
3 is Cologne
29 Hamburg

thats a nice HEMS Page
http://www.rth.info/
somewhere is a button for translation

Nice photos there.

Number 4&5 the ADAC...that is the agency responsible for the Autobaun correct? I remember seeing something on Discovery and I keep thinking thats the paint scheme of the management for the wonderous highway.

yes , everything began on the "Autobahn"
but it's not responsible for ist, its a wrecking services and repair service (primary)
earlier the HEMS was made by the Air Force  (like this one www.SAR71.de )
the the privatization of the Air-Rescue begin, the ADAC , the DRF, and the Border Patrol are now dominating the Service

the Page of the ADAC- AirRescue
http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft_leistungen/Luftrettung/default.asp

they fly on BO-105, EC-145, EC-135 and BK-117
The ADAC has insurance for Cars and Holidays (Medical Transport in Europe) and much more

the most ADAC-Pilots are past Armypilots
they don't apprenticing their pilots (only between Typs)

Very interesting bunch of photos. I think I understand about the "christophe" thing, now - except for the choice of that particular name (if you know).
I got a little excited by the picture of what appears to be three old Convairs, possibly in working order...  a quick check and a closer look at what looks like turboprop-type engine nacelles shows that they're more likely Canadair license-built versions.
Do you know if  those planes are operational?
