Saturday was my birthday and my roommates decided to take me out to some cliffs known as Glider Port where I guess people hang glide.  They know I like aviation, and because I'm still new to SD, they decided to take me here thinking I would like it.  Well, we were in for a surprise.  As soon as we park, a rescue hellicopter drops in.  We discover a resue on the cliffs is unfolding as we get there!  News crews, crowds all gathered wondering what was going on.  Apparently one glider stalled out as he left the cliff and well, he ended up crashing into the cliffs and was stranded.  They had to stabilize him and airlift him out with the chopper.  The word I got was that he was alive.  Not sure how bad his injuries were, but very scary yet exciting stuff.  Of course we all hope the best for him.  Here are the pics though...I happened to have my camera with me.  We never did see any gliding action.















Very Top Gun would'nt you say?  Notice the beach at the bottom left corner of the shot.  Those dots are people.  That gives you an idea how high the cliffs are.

Strangely enough I visited our local hang-gliding site last week. My first visit for years on a bright sunny morning. Soon after I arrived the clouds rolled in & the wind dropped so I didn't get any decent photos. I shall return.
