She's the USS Intrepid, an Essex-class aircraft carrier launched in 1943 and decommisioned in 1974, after a very iillustrious career. She was a key player in the great Pacific battles of WWII, surviving all manner of onslaughts, including kamikaze strikes. The ship became a museum in 1982.
I don't have a flash for my good SLR, so most of these interior shots were taken with a disposable. A few came out, OK, though- here's the nav room.
The bridge is also open to the public... this'd be the helm.
A shot of the exterior part of the bridge; enough light there to use the Canon... that's a radar station; note the big ol' wet compass beyond...
Got lucky with the Canon through glass for this shot of the pilot's ready room, looking like a briefing is just about to start... a lot of hard work and TLC went into this museum, and these pics barely scratch the surface.
Moving down to the hangar deck, among the many items on display is this "scorecard". Not too shabby- and that's just WWII. she also served in Vietnam...
Later... the hangar deck... and then the flight deck!
