Duxford Legends this weekend. Believe it or not I've never been to this event before. Thought I'd toddle up there today to see what all it's all about. I wasn't disappointed. I know my old mate Hawker Tempest is going so I'll wait to see what he comes up with before taking over the forum. Meanwhile, here's a selection of my better shots. The weather was 'orrible all morning but the old currant bun appeared just before the flying started. Lovely. :D

The grand finale. Never seen so many different types of warbirds in the air at once. The noise when they took off was incredible. :o ;D

with the gear up it doesn't look too bad... but lowered, it's quite a strange site.

Very nice as usual. I love the P-39, you don't see as many of them as you do other warbirds.

Very nice Doug. Was it your first time at Leg ends? The Balbo finale is always excellent. I was desperately hoping to go, but a summer ball and my groundschool exams on Monday scuppered any hope I had...

Nice to see "Susy" and "Princess Elizabeth" back in the air after their respective periods of grounding...

I take it you missed the little incident Doug? One of the Classic wings Rapide's had an engine fire after the show, thankfully on the ground. No one hurt, but the lower right (starbord - not allowed to use the term starbord now apparently to keep in sync with the US) was gutted...

yes the Saab B-17 is very strange (and cool, somehow ;D )

Denmark has also had B-17 (in someway..)

Image

The Danish Brigade, which was formed in 1943 in Sweden, had an air arm with 15 pilots who were allowed to take part in Swedish air force training and exercises.

In 1945, 15 B 17Cs were loaned to the Danish Brigade and on May 4:th they were painted in Danish colours and were loaded and ready for take of on the 5:th, but they never got permission to take off in order to arrive in Denmark along with the rest of the Danish Brigade.

These 15 aircraft were offered to Denmark, but seven days after the cease fire the pilots and mechanics were ordered to go to Denmark by train, and the Danish government said they weren't interested in purchasing the B 17s.

Cheers Theis
