Senaca AAF and the White whitetail deer

Senaca Army depot was one of the largest Weapon storage areas on the East coast. Located in Romulas, NY, between the northern sections of Cayuga and Senaca Lake, the base held weapons of all types including "special" weapons. When the base was closed in the mid 90's C-5's, C-141's and C-130's landed, loaded, and left to go to Sierra Army Depot in CA and other WSA"s.

Today the WSA is still fenced off housing not weapons (matbe?) but an oddity in nature. These are the famous white whitetail deer. There are not albino as they have brown eyes. Some people believe that the oddity is the result of the atomic weapons that were once stored there, other think it was just a genetic quirk that has stayed due to the deer being fenced in

The airfield is now closed, but it seems the state polce and fire departments are doing training here. I was unable to see the runway to find out if its being used

The Beacon no longer lights up the sky(it does in FS2004 though), but it is still in use as a highrise house for a pair of American Bald Eagles who have built thier house on the top of the lights.

Between the runway and the lake is the location of Sampson State Park. During WWII it was call Sampson Naval base, training sailors for duty. It was closed after WWII, but reopened as an Airforce training base during the Korean war. It was closed in 1955 and is now a state park . I found there is a military museum on the site, and found this nifty little T-2c on display.
