Charlie's Trip to Elvington...

Postby C » Tue Jun 07, 2005 2:31 pm

Just a few from my jaunt up to Yorkshire over the past couple of days. Two visits, one to National Railway Museum, and then a quick drive south to the Yorkshire Air Museum at the former RAF Elvington...

Here's a few of the Elvington pics...

Two Tornado GR4 development aircraft, recently arrived from BAES at Warton

HP Halifax "Friday the 13th", reconstructed from various fuselage section and with a little help from the wings of a Hastings
Image

HP Victor "Lusty Lindy"
Image

HS Harrier GR.3, a proper Harrier...
Image

"Slinky Hips the Mad Viking" - a close up of the wrting on the nose. Strangely enough, I believe Bjorn Singer was one of the pilots at the Shuttleworth collection at Old Warden when I was a wee lad
Image

[edit]The Victor is actually "Lusty Lindy". "Teasin' Tina" lives at Bruntinthorpe[/edit]

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

So that's where you've been. ;) Very nice & the museum's looking good.

It's a long time since I visited Elvington & the museum was just getting going then. Back in the 80s I think.

Westland Dragonfly Helicopter to the left, and at the far end of the hangar behind the Halifax is a Mossie night fighter. Also behind the Vampire is a replica Me109G...
