Jinxed

There was a rumour a Spitfire was expected so when I heard that familiar growl I was just in the right place with camera at the ready to catch it on the approach - or so I thought. Wrong. ::) Fate decided otherwise & I missed a great opportunity once again. It landed on the grass directly into wind instead of the active runway where I was waiting. I seem to be jinxed where Spitfires are concerned. Ah well, I'll just have to keep trying.

This is the best I could do. Imagine the shots I could have got if I'd been by the bush where that chap is standing.

Sooo, I rushed round to the terminal to get some static shots. Mr Yellow Jacket just beat me to it. >:(

Ah well, this is better than nothing I suppose.

After waiting several hours for her to take off she took a shortcut & didn't come anywhere near where I was standing. Something makes me think she's deliberately avoiding me. Sorry Ozzy, I did my best but sometimes things just don't work out. ::)

PS. While sitting in my car by the bush in my first shot waiting for that Spit to take off I heard a whistle. I got out of the car just in time to see a Venom doing a verrrry low pass right across the airfield. :o I swear I could see the upper surfaces of the wings & I was just in the right place this time to get a classic shot too. Blast it, missed again. Not one of my best days. >:(

Yes. I got better shots of Carolyn Grace than I did of her Spitfire.

Nevermind. At least you've helped advertise her insurer, Aon, which is a good thing in todays climate. I've only met Carolyn once. Lovely lady, and she's one of the signatures in my copy of the book by Tony Holmes and John Dibbs "Spitfire: Flying Legend", which come to think of it will be ten years old next May... Doesn't time fly...

Poor Doug, only being able to see a spitfire more times in a year than i have in the last 10. And to get pictures of one of the most famous and its pilot. its such a tough life. :-/ ;D Nice pics Doug, despite what you say.

LOL Thanks but it doesn't make me feel any better. ::) ;)

To cap it all I found out later that another Spitfire was due but cancelled due to the conditions. (There was an air display at Glynde which is a few miles away. http://www.capitalgold.com/Article.asp?id=82478)
There was a very strong gusty wind all day & visibility wasn't too good.

PS. I was lucky to get that last shot. Couldn't see anything through the viewfinder due to sun glare so I pointed the camera in the general direction & hoped for the best.
