Martin Mars at work

Postby dodger » Sun May 22, 2005 6:53 pm

In Aug. 2003 we had some pretty scary wildfires here in the Okanagan Valley in Southern BC. The worst one was just outside Kelowna, and actually destroyed homes and businesses. Every available fire-fighting aircraft in the west was utilized. The Martin Mars were called in as they are the biggest fire-bombers available. A fire in Vaseux Creek canyon near my home resulted in one of the Mars plus two CL415's detached to work it. The pics show the Mars approaching northbound into the south end of Skaha Lake to pick up another load. Not the best pics due to smoke and haze from both fires but an awesome sight watching this 200ft. span bird working a canyon fire.Image

The image is much too large for these boards.
I took the liberty of uploading it to another site so that it can be viewed.

See it here.

Thanks for sorting out my goofs, people ::) ::) I knew I'd screwed up but I didn't know how or what to do to fix it. (First time I've uploaded pics.) I have a 9-shot sequence of the pair of 415's doing their "touch and scoops" parallel to the Mars but not sure how to upload as they were scanned in in threes like the Mars. Anyone up to P.M.ing me with a short tutorial, feel free. I use Irfanview but haven't played around with it. Cheers!

I might be that guy.......after seeing them as often as I have, I think I have been tempered down a bit from the excitment of when I first saw them.......after all, I live pretty close to them and have had the good fortune to fly over them on Sproat Lake........one was moored and one was doing some engine run taxiing........fine sight then.......
