After careful consideration I reckon it is one of those clockwork Spads that Hagar and Fozzer learnt to fly on

Spad - bit late for Hagar and Foz - I thought they learnt to fly on Pilcher Hawks, like the one in the RAF Museum - at least Fozzer did...![]()
I actually learned to fly on one of these fine machines at RAF Hawkinge in June 1959. Mr Slingsby's Kirby Cadet Mk III (Tandem Tutor). It had the gliding qualities of your average house brick.



The next time someone sneers at a wooden sailplane, remind them that it is made of a unidirectional reinforced laminated composite material consisting of micro-tubular fibres embedded in a long chain polymer matrix and having a near infinite fatigue life.
