End of the rainbow

Postby Hagar » Mon May 09, 2005 4:41 am

I ventured up to Duxford yesterday for their first display of the season. Left home in beautiful sunshine but when I arrived the weather was variable to say the least. At least the thunderstorms passed by on either side of the airfield & I didn't get too wet. ::)

A very disappointing day with the camera. These are some of the best shots I got all day.

I got this just before leaving. Sums it up really.  Can't complain as I got in free & met Roger (Tempest) for a quick chat. Not a bad day out. Hope he did better than me. ;)

That rainbow shot is amazing! You got better shots of the Fury than I did and the rest look OK to, better than most of mine.

Thanks. As for what what happened - wish I knew. ::) The light is all wrong at Duxford for my style of photography. I've never had much luck there, even in ideal conditions which we didn't have yesterday. The weather was worse than Yeovilton last season & you know what that was like. I still have a lot to learn.

Unfortunately the sun at Duxford is always in front of you, as the airfield is South facing...

Are there any airshows next year, in the June-July months?
(In Europe.)

Don't know about next year but I imagine it will be much the same as usual. Usually at least one every weekend throughout the season. Here's a list of major events in the UK this year. http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/shows/showdate.htm

Certainly in the UK, you should have Flying Legends at Duxford, normally the second weekend in July (WW2 aircraft from all over Europe, and most years with a suprise visitor or new aircraft from the States). The week after is normally the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, which I believe is now the worlds largest military airshow, with hundreds of aircraft on static display and a six or seven hour long flying display...
Farnborough is on next year though, so the order might be shaken up a bit...

Just checked the dates - Farnborough's public days will be 22/23 of July 2006, and last year that show was the week after RIAT, which was the week after Legends...

Just for comparison, I'd like to see some of the "bad" shots ...  I think you've come a long way from snipping the tails off lightplanes :)

Holy snikes batman! Those are another set of beautiful shots! :)

Seems I was right, the rainbow always ends at the local airfield! :)
