Well, today I did my very first paint job for my truck!  I'm pretty impressed with myself considering what I just did. lol  Anyway, have a look!

I had a few problems with the stuff I used for the mask for the flames, but turned out OK considering.  Next step is to cut the thing out.  Ugh, they say that takes a long time. lol

Oh, and all three colors have nice metallic flecks in them, so they have a wonderful shimmer.

I guess you needed a new shell because you wrecked the old one? ;D

I used to run my RC racers without shells and wrapped the one on my 4x4 with bubble wrap (the stuff with the 3/4 inch diameter bubbles).

Actually no... I had money burning a hole in my pocket, and wanted a fun project. lol  The other body is holding up quite well actually!  Only one crack! :P

LOL  did the bubble wrap work well?  That'd be cool.

It kept the shell scratch free and clean, as well as dampening the shock when I flipped the truck ;D

It is a lot easier to cut it out and drill holes before you paint it but I made the same mistake the first time. If you have a xacto knife use that to cut it a bit all the way around then just wiggle it and it will just come off. If you use scissors it will take alot longer and be much more frustarating and you will most likely scratch the paint but anyway. Use Lexan scissors if you can get them though. Give us some pics of it mounted  :)

Nice looking truck!

What chassis are you using?

I can't tell from the pics...did you paint the outside of the shell or the inside?

Thanks for the tip... next time I get a new body I'll buy the lexan scisors to use before I paint.  I was too impatient to wait for the weekend when I had access to a dremel and choped it all away today.  Dang, it took longer to cut all that crap off than to mask and paint the darn thing!

It's just got the stock aluminum chassis it came with... the truck is a T-Maxx.  Haven't had any need (YET) to replace it.

In about an hour I'll be taking the new body for a test drive and my girlfriend will take some pictures... I'll be sure to post those.

And with car bodies you paint the inside, otherwise all the paint will chip off every time you touch anything.

I thought you knew to paint the inside...but I couldn't figure a polite way to ask if you had screwed it up or not. :)

What's worked for me when painting parts like this has been to score the parts first...but not cut. Properly scored parts are easy to snap off later and leave a very clean break. I like having the extra material as a handle..but it's a matter of taste and experience.

I've got to rebuild my truck. :( Front shock towers snapped during a move and two front wheels need replacing. Mine's nothing special though...modified Tamiya Blackfoot from 15 odd years ago, lots of miles on her. Very nice NATO 3-colour camo on the body...made from real NATO paint when I was in Germany.  ;D This next rebuild will be the 15th set of tires and the 4th set of wheels! Even the 4th set of shocks...those cheap Tamiya stock ones are way underbuilt for some things...even the liquid damper ones keep popping after big air day.  :o
