RIAT 2004

Postby Mr. Bones » Sat Mar 12, 2005 3:04 pm

Last week, I had many photos in the Anet upload queue. Here are the ones that didn't make it...some for stupid reasons such as not centered in the photo (like the Harrier)...but how the hell do you have to show the folks it was hoovering if you have to have the plane centered?  ???
Anyways, the screeners didn't like the 1600pix ones, I hope you like the compressed 800pix ones.  ;)

Very nice indeed Bones. ;)

As for Anet, I don't know why you chaps put yourselves through all that nonsense. Who are these people anyway? If you like them & they satisfy you, surely that's all that matters. Art is a matter of opinion & I'm always wary of these so-called experts.

Nice shots Ken. I am hopefully going this year, i sort of told my dad i was going and it was up to him if he was coming along LOL.
Doug, i think the appeal of anet is more recognition. I like to take photos for myself, much like you. I will always post the ones i think worthy, here at simv for others to view. If i think some might make it to a wider audience like anet then great. I just like to show off my photos, not in an "i'm a better photographer than you" way but in a heres a hobby i enjoy why not share in it. I feel thats part of the reason you choose to share yours with us. And i am grateful you and others like Ken do.

Ah well. I was never competitive & I'm not qualified to criticise other people's work. If I like the photos I say so. If I don't like them I keep my big trap shut. ;)

I post my own photos here to share them with my friends. I look on them as snapshots, not works of art. I take them for my satisfaction & nobody is forced to look at them. I also like to add a little story to make it interesting. It's nice when someone comments & says they like them. I sometimes think it's like dragging out the family album & boring people to death. ::) :D

I had some nice shots last summer, at least I thought they were nice. I'd say I uploaded about 20 of them to Anet and only one even passed the first screening. I don't think I'll bother with that again. I'll be going to 3 or 4 air shows this summer and I hope to have lots and lots of pics to share with everyone here. I can't wait to see everyone elses air show shots. I'd say this summer will be my best summer yet. Thunerbirds, Blue Angels, and Airventure. What more could you ask for?

Enough of my rambling, I'm just really exited about the photos section in about 3 months... :)

Lovely photos there Bones ;) I stopped submitting to Anet a while back after they rejected several of my photos (which were good) and the next day had a blatant cut and paste jobbie in there, seems they are into either cronyism or cronyism ;D

Also really like the Tornado shot, great series in all 8)

I think I'll try and drag my carcass along again this year ;D

They have the same problem at the Nats, the UK national R/C championships. I know a few of the chaps that go regularly & they call it the "halo factor". Once someone has a reputation the judges overlook little obvious faults that would disqualify anyone else. This means they always end up winning & the others never stand a chance. I imagine it's much the same in any competition where judging depends on someone's personal opinion.

If I could take a photo like that Tornado in Bones' first shot I would be very proud indeed. I don't care what the people at Anet or anyone else think.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Why I upload them to Anet? Well, it's kinda like Craig says. If you get your photos in their database, you get recognition. Some of my shots got almost 1500 views in just 24 hours. If it wasn't the same day as the 777-200LR's first flight, my shot would have been the most viewed one for that day.  :)

I upload them to anet, here and fencecheck. But at Anet, you get the most views and that's what it's all about. If I make a photo, I'm proud of it and the more people get to see it, the more I like it. Don't think that I don't like my photos anymore after they were rejected, no, but having them in there gives you recognition and satisfaction!  ;)
