Hello all, just thought I would show off my Guillows balsa and tissue models:

Piper Cherokee 140 on the left, Cessna 170 on the right.


Heres the Piper, I built this one first. You can tell, because I didnt do a very good job on the fuselage


The Cessna 170 that I just finished. Im not to happy with the way the wings turned out but you really cant tell, so Oh well.



Just an extra shot for fun.


Im glad I picked up this hobby. I work at night and there is nothing to do when I get off at midnight, so this is perfect. Anyway, Enjoy.

Will they remain as static models or will they feel the air under their wings ?.......

A school gym is the dandy place to do your test flying if you can get lucky enough to get the time in one.......

These will be static. I plan on building more, maybe I will fly some of them. To me the fun is all in the construction, and I never saw the point in free flight planes. you just wind them up, throw them, and... there they go... oh boy! lol, just my opinion anyway.

Does anyone have any suggestions for painting them? should I use water based, or acrylic? Note: I used a white glue-water mixture to attatch the tissue covering. I didnt want anything with fumes as my apartment doesnt ventilate well.

i have the SuperCub guillows model, i built it static and scratch-built ALL the interior, i made the rudder cables outof string, and the rest was done using scarps from the box

You will have to be careful the paint doesn't make the tissue go all saggy. We always used cellulose taughtening dope to seal the tissue after shrinking it with water. Then give it a coat of coloured dope to finish off. This is exactly what you don't want as the dope fumes could be overpowering in a confined space. My brother & I used to do all our modelling on the living room table & the place always smelled of pear drops but things were different in those days.

Not sure what modern alternatives there are now.  Rifleman should be able to tell you. As these models are for static display you could paint over cellulose dope with oil based paint if you wished. Don't know about acrylic.
