My R/C Plane

Hi all!
You may have noticed I changed my user name from BenMK to R/C Ben. Thats because I just bought my first R/C Plane! It's an Avistar 40 glow trainer. I joined a club and they will train me how to fly. I can't wait to solo! I has a 59' wing span. Also, yesterday the club had a show and auction. They had a raffle and I bought only 6 tickets becuase thats all I could afford. I'm sure they sold well over 1,000 tickets. Odds are against me, eh? Well, it only takes one ticket and my ticket was the one! Whats more, is I won the biggest prize they had, a Hitec Optic 6 radio. It's so nice. I can't tell you how exited I was to win that radio! I NEVER win anything!!

Great looking plane.  That's a neat hobby but I probably couldn't afford all the repairs/broken parts!!

Have fun!  Send some pics of it flying when you can.

Jim

Excelent choice for a trainer!
Joining a club is a very smart move also.

Keep at it and don't get discouraged if it seems difficult at first.

When I first got into r/c aircraft and joined a local club, there was also another new member at the time.
He actually flew combat in WWII!
However, he did have a very dificult time learning to fly RC.
He eventuly did solo and went on to become a very good r/c pilot!

Cool plane... I had one... never flew it, as the "test pilot" I had check it out took her vertical on takeoff... the stupid cheap stock clevis pin broke on the elevator... went straight up... then, straight down. lol  Total length of flight... about 4 seconds. :)

Congrats Ben, you will LOVE the hobby!  Keep us posted on your progress!!

Hows your Stryker doin Boss?

One other thing. I got a simulator for only $20 with the transmitter. I love that. I think it will really help me... :)

Oh man, the Strykers doing great.  Although, after some serious mods, I have broken the nose in another 3 places.  ::)  But, hey, I just threw some tape on it, and 2 minutes later she was back up in the air!

After installing leading edge slats, winglets, and modifying the elevons, the plane can now turn 180 degrees within it's own length, and can fly slow enough that I can WALK beside it and catch it.  Sure, it eats up a battery a little faster, but I guess that's the cost of high performance. :D

BTW, after you get used to flying your Avistar, you should get a cheap little RTF electric for those "lazy" days you don't wanna drag out all the RC gear.

That's cool you got the simulator... they help A TON!!!  I got the RealFlight simulator several years ago, and it is a hefty $200 but WELL WORTH IT.  I know I've saved tripple that with trying REAL RC's. lol

The Real Flight Simulator is cool. The G3 is just amazing! I assume you have G2?

Glad to see you're enjoying the Stryker! I can't wait till next year when I master the Avistar. I think I want something low wing. It's gonna be a blast! :)

Yeah, I have G2... and desperatly want G3, but my computer wouldn't handle it. :(

Or, there is that other one that's brand new and is the most realistic looking thing I've EVER seen! lol

Anyway, the Avistar is a fun little plane.  And it'll keep you busy for quite a while too, as you can do rolls, loops, and easy aerobatics like that in it.

Is the simulator you're talking about AeroFly Pro Delux? Because that one looks like a real movie. It's incredible! :o

i think he means the MRC Reflex, yes, the aerofly delux looks good but the MRC sim looks like...well, you cant describe it!

have fun with the avistar...just dont forget to put you rubberbands on right, ive seen a few avistars hit the ground like a guided missile and the wing come fluttering down above it...
sorry if i scared ya...lol

i learned on an old hobico superstar 60. awesome plane.

i can talk all day about this stuff, but i already feel like im rambleing on...

feel free to ask any questions
