Any American that does not  know what this piece of parchment is should be beaten. Our friendsnorth and south and over the big pond that know...Big points!

Because of two youg kids (3 and 5) We didnt see everything but still was a great trip. We did see both parts of the NASM, natural, and american history. National Archives and NYC on the way home. Locked the keys in the car once, and made at least 6 wrong turns (wife aint good at maps!), went through three DVDS at least 5 times  each for the kids, drove 1070 miles, three nights for $290, and started smoking again!

Hi Chris. I visited that place with my brother during our last trip to the US in 1996. Don't wish to spoil it on the first reply so I won't say where it is. We went there on the same day the Olympic torch passed through. This might give a clue. I have a few shots taken with my old camera. I'll dig them out & scan them some time. If they come out OK I'll post them in the Photos forum.

Think I know what that parchment is too but I don't remember seeing that. Glad you enjoyed the trip. It's well worth a visit & I wish we could have spent more time there.

Hmmm the olympics were in Atlanta in 1996 so is it there? I was pretty sure it was in D.C. though...

My little clue seems to have thrown you off the scent. I said the torch passed through. It hadn't reached its destination. As I remember there was a big storm during the night & the flame actually went out. A tad embarrassing after being carried all that way but they said they had a spare flame & relit it. We reckoned that the President probably used his Zippo. :D

That document is in fact one of the most sacred pieces of paper in the US. The United States Constitution. Located in the The National Arcives Museum in Washington, D.C. The two planes are located in the the National Air and Space Museum Annex at Dullas IAP. I took a total of 203 pictures during the trip

I took a trip to this wonderful city some time ago, and loved it! The Air and Space museum was naturally my favorite, but the annex was not due to open for anoter 6 months. So, I am hoping to make a trip back someday to see it! 8)

Ah, the annexe wasn't there when I visited. I'm sure Enola Gay was in the main museum at that time.

I dont think we had time to see the annex, We only had 2 days in DC, then went down to Kittyhawk/Killdevil Hills/Nags Head in North Carolina. Kitty hawk was interesting too what with all the wright brothers exhibits and such.

My parents don't live very far from DC.  When I was a child, they would frequently take me to the Smithsonian museums.  Naturally, my favorite was Air and Space.  This past summer when I went back to visit my parents, I went to the museum, but my digital camera wasn't behaving. :(

Also, as a child, we would do many school trips to the Smithsonian.  Great place for a field trip.. best of all.. it's free!

Great shots.. if I can, I'll dig some up, or simply go back when I move back to Maryland.
