Hey,
its really great to see that there are a few people in the flight sim community that also enjoy/enjoyed the world of R/C flight...heres a few pics of the modern side of the hobby as opposed to the "good 'ol days" that Hagar posted. enjoy!

this is me in my early stages of learning the art of helicopters. it is powered by a .30 cc nitro engine...
Image

One of the mre popular models out at the field sunday mornings the, GWS P-51. At the time of the picture, it was powered by the stock electric motor and batteries. Currently, it is tearing up the sky with a brushless motor and lithium ion batteries
Image

look very closely at the botttom of the helicopter...that chrome cylinder with the puple ring on the front is a miniature gas turbin engine! Yes, it runs on real jet avation fuel! I had the privilage of assisting in the build of this very complex model. This picture was take before the installation of all of the radio components (huge tangle of wires) and the fule system (very complex system of plumming, electronic soloniods, fuel pumps, propane starting gas tank [already installed...little white tank] and 2 saddle gas tanks made out of Colman fuel cans)
Image

Picture of fiberglass "canopy" before paint...
Image

Here is a picute of a friend of mine's very scale trubine powered heli. this was taken at an rc airshow, and has sence been sold for around $30,000!
Image

Last one for now... a semi scale .60 powered Cobra attack heli...
Image

there are many more where these came from, just let me know and ill make another thread cause i already maxxed this one out!!!

thx for lookin ;D

stupid little typo...

Some nice models there Bob. I could never get enthusiastic over helos (or fibreglass) myself. Like the P-51D though. :P ;)

**edit**hmm, cant seem to get those two to work, they are both under 800 pix and 100k, any suggestions?

Sorry, I can't figure out the problem. Maybe you got the file names slightly wrong. I can only suggest you try uploading them again.

PS. Here ya go. http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/bob576-%20turbine1.jpg

Nice shots:)
Try to avoid using symbols such as -/+=\ and so on. It makes it easier to post then.

thanks alot Hagar, i got them fixed in the post. lol you wont be enthusiastic about these things untill you hear one of these babies spool up to 100K+ rpm!, it is imposible to describe the sound, let alone the feeling of these mini turbines. Right now, the little ~30 inch wingspan P-51 cooks at about 60 mph, i plan on putting together one that will easily blow by the 100 mph mark!! i will post another thread tomarrow with more planes instead of helis...

I've seen, heard & smelled plenty of those miniature gas-turbines. Lovely they are too. If they were a tad cheaper I could easily get interested in them myself.

that is a very true statement, you wont find us doing any 3d manuvers with our scale helis ;D. however it is kinda hard to justify a tiny 30 inch WS electric as being scale. at our private field, the only fixed wings we fly are electric so we are all out to one up the next guy in performace. we have alot of fun playing limbo with a few PVC pipes and some toilet paper. i guess the fear factor of flying isnt there when the planes only cost 30 bucks, and thats if they are completely destroyed and are beyond repair...we have very rarely beat up a plane that much, and it has only been after being epoxied and toothpicked bac together about a half dozen times!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Much the same as I used to do myself, only this was with aerobatic slope-soarer gliders. You might be surprised at the speed they can go. ;)
