It's been pouring down with rain here so I've been going through the shots I took on Saturday. Here's a random selection.

Avro 504K. A wonderful aircraft but not an easy subject to photograph.


The little SE.5a fighter made famous by WWI aces like Billy Bishop, James McCudden and Edward Mannock. Designed by H.P. Folland who was later responsible for the Folland Gnat flown by the Red Arrows.

I thought this was a moody shot. It increases my admiration for those WWI pilots who fought in much worse conditions than this.


Some people collect rare aircraft like I used to collect Dinky toys. Peter Teichman owns this beautiful Beech Staggerwing & the immaculate P-51D Mustang "Jumpin' Jacques" I saw at Abingdon earlier in the year. I'm told he's looking out for a Spitfire.



Unusual shot of the privately owned PT-22. Its new owner Peter Holloway is another avid collector. He bought it to keep it in the UK. Says it keeps him poor. Thanks to the generosity & enthusiasm of people like this we're able to see these beauties in the air.


The one & only Hawker Sea Hurricane. One of my favourites.

Some of these chaps are good. I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of the shots posted there very similar to mine. Same angles & suchlike. Some look almost identical which must mean I'm doing something right.

He must be connected with Old Warden as he is allowed on the flightline. He has one of those Canon 10D DSLR jobs with a darned great lens on it.

Awesome shots Hagar, I just love the photos of that S.E.5a-one of my favorite planes of all time!  Is that a replica or is it original (I would suspect its a replica-not like it matters  ;)).  Once again, great shots.

I too have been saving a bunch of them on my hard drive-all of these beautful WWI fighters have a special place in my heart.  I wish I could see them in person.

Doug I've just spotted a terrible problem with all these magnificent photos of yours, the guys white silk scarves aren't flapping in the slip-stream behind them

Thanks Mark. If you look through some of my recent threads, maybe from the previous OW show, I think you'll find some with authentic flapping scarves.

Thanks for the encouragement chaps. I know how lucky I am to live within reach of all these shows. Of course, the UK is much smaller than the US & they're easier to get to. The aircraft restoration business is thriving in this country & the British public has been air-minded since Alan Cobham toured the country with his "Flying Circus" in the 1930s. I read somewhere that air displays are the 2nd most popular outdoor event in the UK. I've been going to them regularly since I was 6 years old, that's over 50 years.

I went to every Farnborough Air Show in its heyday during the '50s-60s. I watched the King's Cup air races at Shoreham when I was a lad & also the record breaking flight of Neville Duke in the Hunter along the coast at Worthing. I also saw the Bristol Brabazon fly along here on its round-Britain tour. Unfortunately I didn't have a decent camera until quite recently.

I'm also fortunate to know a lot of people in the business as I was in the aircraft industry myself for most of my working life. I'm still as fascinated by aeroplanes as I was when I was 6 years old. This year I decided to do something about it which is the reason for all the shots I've posted here. I'm glad you like 'em.

Doug, you already know what I think of your shots.......just keep 'em coming........

........Camera learning curve is not all that steep for you as you have had good lead-in experience with other capture devices.........its all about hard drive space and burning CD's now..........

Amazing shots Hagar. The overhead and landing? shots of the stagerwing are simply fantastic.
