Little Chilton DW1. Amazing performance on a 32hp Carden-Ford car engine.


Desoutter I monoplane - based on the Dutch designed Koolhoven FK41. This one was operated by Richard Shuttleworth's Warden Aviation company from 1936 until the outbreak of WWII. Out of 41 built it's the only survivor.


One of my favourites. The Miles Falcon Major.


DH Hornet Moth. Not quite so rare as the others but I'm pleased with the shot. There was talk of it being sold off. Hope it goes to a good home.


My only complaint with this place is there's too much going on all at once. With 3 or 4 beautiful aircraft in the air most of the time it's difficult to know which one to aim your camera at.

I still haven't seen the DH.88 Comet or Lysander fly.

If I were you I'd be submitting a lot of these to Airliners, your canvas deserves a wider audience

Thanks Mark. Apart from the Desoutter these are the funniest looking airliners I've ever seen.

Seriously, I would never consider myself a proper photographer. I'm no good at all that technical stuff. The camera is the star here. These shots were all taken on fully automatic. All I have to do is point the camera at the plane & press the button at the right moment. Anyone could do it. I must be improving a little as the familiar words "Oh, sod it" were not heard quite so frequently on Sunday.
I'm not interested in competing with anyone. I take these shots for my own pleasure & satisfaction. If others enjoy them that's a bonus.

That is why people post stuff up at airliners.net, to bring pleasure to more people.
I know that some of my less than professional shots have brought pleasure unto others, I've even had emails
I think you might want to consider some of these, you deserve a global audience

One of the things that I like about Hagar's photography is that he's at the right place at the right time.  It's almost impossible to believe that they're not staged or composed.  

The photographs frequently capture some detail of the airplane that can easily get overlooked - the soda can oil catcher, the particular control column/yoke - on "just another airplane photo.

I know that my feeble attempts are usually ruined by trying to "get" that angle just right ...

Precisely. I would be honoured if anyone thinks my shots are worth using on their desktop.

The reason I post them here is to share my experiences with my friends at SimV. I hope they give you an idea of my interests & just a little of what goes on in my part of the world. Thanks for all your kind comments but I'm not trying to compete with serious photographers or interested in a wider audience.

Hagar old pal, you really had the camera on fully auto? And I've been tearing my hair out trying to make sense of all the fancy stuff it can do when you can get amazing shots like this on auto. I hope mine are half as good when I finally get to try it out.

Yes Roger. Automatic with Standard settings. I made the same mistake at first by making things too complicated. Tried every setting in the book & a few more besides. ::) I was almost ready to throw the darned thing in the bin & pack it all in after a disastrous day at Duxford. You can't imagine how disappointed I was after the long trip up there.  

The next day at Old Warden I was fortunate enough to meet a young chap with the same camera. He said it was the best thing since sliced bread & kindly gave me a few tips. I had nothing to lose so I took his advice. You've seen the results.
