Some really nice pictures. My 2800 gives me some nice macros as i am sure you are aware with wendy's. I personally have upgraded because i want to start making some money, my uncle works for the sky sports and has alot of contacts who i am hoping can help. I will get some close ups with the fuji tomorrow and post them, see how well they match up

Those are nice photos Ken. I agree with you to some extent. Most people never get the best out of their cameras & think that spending more money is the answer. This might help but it's no good at all if you don't know how to use it.

In the end I think it depends on what you use the camera for. I was quite satisfied with my little F401 2MP until recently, still am in fact. It's a great little camera & handy for slipping in your pocket. I carry it almost everywhere with me. It's easy to use & ideal for static shots of aircraft. I would recommend it to anyone. The main disadvantage is with the aerial shots which I really wanted. This is fine providing you can get really close but how often can you get close to aircraft in the air? I've found they're too far away even at an air show.

Most digital cameras have an excellent macro feature. My first digital was a Casio (forget the number). This was something like 10 years ago. The spec was in pixels rather than megapixels & it cost more than my S5000. It was pretty useless compared with the cheapest one you can get nowadays. The one good thing about it was the macro lens. I took some fantastic shots of flowers which still look great today. It was also ideal for use in the packing department at work for taking a quick shot of damaged parcels.

Hi Ken, i hope you dont mind if i add these two shots i just got from my fuji 2800, for a 2mp camera they are pretty amazing quality not as good as the ones you posted but i am getting there:)

Those are fine shots Craig.  It shows that you can capture a good image with what is now an entry level camera without controls.  I know the 2800 would certainly have been a much superior camera, if it had been bundled with a little more intensive firmware, to allow better creative manual control of sorts......the one thing that most cameras are lacking though, in my opinion, is the ability to capture the low light level shots by having a strong max aperture......
 It must seem like a broken record when I speak of my own Oly 2040, but the main reason I bought this machine in the first place was the F 1.8 Superbright lens and the firmware which included full control and up to a 16 second max shutter on manual......
My question now is how can I replace the 2040 when it dies.........maybe this way ? Its MY dream camera.............

that Olympus looks good Ken, but when you want to go for a DSLR, i think it's better to stick with Canon or Nikon. both produce the best amateur/prof camera's.  ;)

Ken your photo abilities certainly would transfer well to that camera, it seems to be coming down in price. I dont know if you have a time line for owing such a beast but i cant wait to see the results when you do:)
 The biggest problem with most digital cameras are they are designed for the point and shoot market. Thats all well and good but the price tag they give these you would expect a little more creative options.

oh I agree that some of the shorcomings need to be addressed by Oly, but by the time I have the money to move to that level, my interests will be purely for hobby photography and not in the direction of making money with the medium..........back in the past, I used Fuji and Pentax to make money, and for the most part, unless I disclosed the camera type which captured the shot, any difference was not discernable........I have put some images up against Nikon and Canon images and for the most part, the difference which comes to the fore, is creativity, content, and composition.........

You can build a house using any hammer you choose, its all in how well you swing it.........  8)

lol. I think i have a good variety now, My 2800 is perfect for the point and shoot work and also for its size it makes it easy to carry in my jacket pocket. the Minolta X370 is there for the sheer fun of shooting film for the family shots that require hard copies of all the photos, or for times i need the speed of the SLR (plus its still my fav) and the 300D is the next step for me hopefully to start making money, the options it has without the costs of poor prints makes it ideal for begining.
