Just 7miles from where I live

Witchford is a thriving village about two miles west of Ely in Cambridgeshire. It has been around for a long time - there is an entry in the Domesday book.
The Display of memorabila is on the Lancaster Way Business Park

That's a nice little piece of history Mick. There must be many similar airfields dotted all over your part of the country. I had a hunt round & found some more info. http://www.rafcaa.org.uk/admin/witchfrd.htm

This is particularly interesting.
1945 April The last bombing raid was made on the 24th April.
By contrast, on the 25th the Squadrons started flying very low level missions in "Operation Manna" to drop food to the starving Dutch civilians in the north of Holland.
This lasted about a week, and the German commander assisted by ordering his gunners not to fire at the food planes.
