"Airbourne" Last day .....

We were promised good weather but Sunday was a bit of a washout. I did manage to get a few shots but it will be a long time before I can match the ones I took on Saturday.

Here's the Yak I missed on the approach yesterday. This was taken at about 10 am. Note the windsock. No wind at all.

The weather brightenened up for a while before clagging in completely.
This is probably the best shot I got all day. It was taken into what light there was & I had to brighten it up a little for posting. I'm quite pleased with the result. Denny Dobson coming over the fence in his Extra 300. You can see from the rudder that he's doing his usual sideslip approach. The aircraft was actually coming towards me.

I got these while waiting for the Harrier to take off. I've not seen this one before. I think it's a resident & must find out more about it.

The local piston Provost in Irish Air Force markings.

I finally got a reasonable shot of the RAF Tucano in the air.

Here's the Harrier. It was raining quite hard when I took this shot.

I brightened this one up a bit.

I found out later that he didn't go above 200 feet during the whole trip & display at Eastbourne. He came in downwind on his return so no shots over the fence this time. :'(

This is why he came in the other way. The top end of the airfield is really clagged in. Taken at about 4 pm.

I left soon afterwards as it was getting worse by the minute. Glad I didn't go all the way to Eastbourne. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable few days despite the rotten weather.

Great shots Doug inspite of the weather!
I can't believe how much rudder that Extra is using for a side-slip approach. Is visibility that poor from it?

Thanks. A little sunshine would have made all the difference. ::) The 2-seat Extra is flown solo from the rear seat. I didn't try to land the one I flew in but I understand it's impossible to see the ground over the nose from the back. Probably as bad as a Griffon Spitfire.

Mind you. This is Denny Dobson. He rarely flies straight & level for more than a few seconds. ;D

PS. I took this shot of him touching down on the runway. It didn't come out too well but you can see the angle of his approach. ;)

Indeed. He's a well-known show-off. ;D

They tell me you can't see over the wing either. That's what the side windows in the lower fuselage are for. From that angle he can do a spot landing right on the marks. ;)
