"Airbourne" Day 2

Postby Hagar » Sat Aug 14, 2004 4:24 am

My first shots went down better than expected so heres some from Day 2. Conditions were slightly better but it was colder than Day 1. I had thought about going to Eastbourne today but the weather isn't too good right now. We might have seen the best of it as the forecast doesn't look promising for the weekend.

The Army Blue Eagles team arrived in force & treated us their full display schedule. They told me it was a tad tricky in the strong wind.

The RAF Chinook gave us a demo before leaving for its proper display along Eastbourne seafront. They certainly throw this thing around. Apparently they got an award for the best display routine at RIAT.

Fooling around as usual. This is the chap in the doorway in the previous shot. No idea what it's all about. ;)

The RNAF PC-7 going through his routine. They're changing the colour scheme to black next year as it shows up better.

This Nimrod gave a fly-by down the runway on its way to Eastbourne.

John Romain's Spitfire XVI for Ozzy. He did a nice routine but I expected him to land so didn't bother with long distance shots. I was out of luck as he didn't return.

This was a special press day so we got a free air show. All good stuff but my shots don't really give much idea of the atmosphere. I wish you could have been there with me. The singleton RAF Hawk did 3 passes but like some of the others it was too far away to get decent shots. The teams used this as an ideal opportunity to rehearse for the RAFA display here at the end of the month. Hope I can do better then.

Lovely stuff Doug (thanks for the Spit ;))
On the Chinook shot the Loadie has to stand in the doorway and call the altitude of the rotor tips from the ground for the pilots during low-level turns, so I'd guess they were just about to bank hard to starboard ;)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

beautiful photos, looks like the apache is still yet to be added to the blue eagles, then again they may have gone against that idea now.
