"Airbourne" 2004

I first used my digital camera in anger exactly 1 year ago. I've posted a lot of shots in this forum since then - some good & some not so good. ::)

Today was the start of the the 4-day "Airbourne" free air display at Eastbourne seafront. The display aircraft often use Shoreham as a convenient base. Some of the regulars might remember that I posted some shots of a Yak 52 doing a belly landing this time last year. I popped over there today to see what was going on. Unfortunately the weather was not so good. Here's a selection of some of the visiting aircraft.

The Blue Eagles Lynx & Gazelle (I think). The visibility wasn't too good when these guys left for their display.

Conditions got worse before the Chinook took off.
Image

The Merlin. First time I've seen one.
Image

Aha, the weather's brightening & here's the reserve Harrier we were expecting. The RAF always has a spare aircraft at these events in case the display aircraft goes U/S. The traditional bow to the tower on arrival.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force Pilatus PC-7. I thought the colours matched nicely. ;)
Image

One of a pair of Short Tucanos. I had a nice chat with the pilot. That's what I like about it here, rather than driving all the way to crowded Eastbourne.
Image

The display Harrier arriving back from Eastbourne - 5 minutes as the Harrier flies. No apologies for what's almost a duplicate shot. I've always loved this aircraft. ;D

There should be lots more happening tomorrow. Hope it's bright & sunny so I can get some better shots. ;)

Here's the "Airbourne" site. http://www.eastbourneairshow.com/
Unfortunately the Reds won't be visiting Shoreham.

As usual, excellent photos.

And for those that may wonder about the colours .... remember that Shell Petroleum is part of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies,

Great photos Doug.
Made even better by my love of the harrier, and of course showing pics of my home town display team "the blue eagles" only makes these photos greater:)

nice shots Hagar, only sad the weather was that bad. it's very hard to make descent photos in such conditions.

this reminds me i still have to post shots of my latest harrier experience.  ;)

Thanks for the kind words chaps. I know these are not among my best efforts but this was a special occasion & I had to post something.

Uh-oh. :-[ Thanks Tempest. I was told it was a Merlin & didn't bother to check. What I don't know about helicopters would fill several large volumes. ::)

It was better than I expected today (like a private air show) but the weather was very changeable. I'm very disappointed with how my shots came out. Not many worth posting so maybe I won't bother.

this reminds me i still have to post shots of my latest harrier experience.

Yes please Bones. They will be far better than anything I can do. ;)
