Cub Update

Now that the tags are working again, I can finally update you guy's on the progress of my 1959 EP Cub that I'm building. A lot has happened since I first posted shots of it. The fuseloge is almost complete and wing construction is comming along well. It's also finally standing on it's three feet.

Still missing the rudder and nose. Nose will be added as soon as I get a motor for it.


View of the port side. I left the front panel off on purpose for easy motor and wiring installation.


Horizontal stabalizer with elevator attatched.


The two wing panels still need some fine tuning. I haven't attatched the trailing edge yet. Rudder is waiting to be attatched.


The lovely and spacious interior holds a crew of one mouse.  ;D Of course failing that, some radio equipment will do.

One comment. If I was doing it I would build the complete wing all in one go. Using modern adhesives on something like this speeds the whole job up. Lay the parts out over the (protected) plan with various weights & blocks to hold them in place. Then dab the joints with a drop of cyano. This takes a matter of minutes & you can remove the finished job from the building board straight afterwards. You could use the same method to hold more conventional glued joints while they're drying. I never use pins any more & have built complete models using "superglue".

That's what I had been doing Hagar. Problem is, the wing isn't flat like the real Cub. It doesn't have ailerons either. It has a steep dihedral to assist in turning and to help level the aircraft. This model doesn't have a single drop of epoxy on it either. I used thin CA for most of the parts. Thicker stuff for the things that I don't want to dry instantly. I might use a 5min for the nose to give it added strength.

Also, incase your wondering, I'll be covering the wing with cub yellow solarfilm. The curved bit infront of the cockpit I'll just cover with monokote. The whole model has been painted with cub yellow LusterKote paint.

I still need to add the door. It will be on a hinge for easy access to the interior. The wing is completely fixed to the top so easy access in a necessity.Windows will simply be made out of clear overhead projector sheets.

It's 8% scale (1:12.5 ratio). It will be powered by a Grand Wing Servos IPS "A" Drive motor.
