Can't believe my luck

Postby Hagar » Sun May 23, 2004 2:05 pm

It was such a nice morning I decided to find a local airstrip I was told about. This was once an Advanced Landing Ground used in the D-Day invasion. In fact the first aircraft to take to the air on D-Day flew from there, providing top-cover over the Omaha and Gold beach-heads.

After a nice drive through the beautiful Sussex countryside I found it. A few planes but not much going on so I looked around for signs of habitation. The first person I met was an old friend I haven't seen for something like 30 years.

I asked if I could take some photos of his pretty little Jodel. He said "Of course. I'm just going up. Would you like to come?". Well, what would you have said? ;D

Here we go.

What a lovely morning. More later.

Ah yes, the " Rifleman " effect......comes from hanging around airfields with nothing but a mouth and stories of flying, to get you into the cockpit for a circuit or two.....

............Lucky Stiff ! ! !

Thanks Ken. As you're all well aware by now I have plenty of mouth. I'll bore anyone prepared to listen. I'm not fussy. LOL ;D

As the old saying goes, it's not so much what you know but who you know. Surprising how the camera helps too. ;)
