Found this over at Airliners.  Amazing looking plane and I'm sure it can't be a production model.  Anyone know anything about it?  :o

Looks to me like a very heavily modified Reno Racer... 8)

It's about the only racing Mustang without a Merlin engine.  "Precious Metal" sports a Griffon.

I've seen pictures of her before, but I didn't realise she had a Griffon engine. That is pretty mad!!!! And she'd need the contra-rotating props otherwise she'd just taking in circles from the engine torque ;D ;D ;D

speaking about engines and Reno, what the hell is this: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/575755/L/ you can barely see the plane attached to the engine  ::)

That is, as the label says, a Gee Bee R-2.

There was another Griffon engined Reno Mustang at one time also called "World Jet" but I'm not sure if that one is still around. I guess they needed to add a Real engine to play with the big boys in their Sea Furies ;)
