What is it?

Okay, there are lots of clever clogs knowing things about aircraft around here, so lets try some insignia, so what is this?

Well, that looks like a seagull so i'm inclined to say Fleet Air Arm.

Looks more like the albatross used on the RAF badge to me. I've never seen it with its head in that position before. It also looks like a standard of some sort. I have no idea of its significance or which service it represents. ::)

hawk eagle or falcon?
if its any of those who knows:)
seriously, i would say maybe the british armys blue eagles, or maybe REME, as both of those i think had birds on them, i should know this as my dad was part of REME, but i cant remember what was on the badge.

then again looking at it, maybe its part of the royal guard.

To me it looks to me like a hovering Kestrel, I had a check in the bird book and the shape fits perfectly. There are a number of other Falcons which are the same shape but the kestrel is probably the most likely to be in that position.

This is the RAF badge from their own site.

The bird was originally an albatross but now generally regarded as an eagle.

Okay I'll give a little help. Its NOT British, it is European, and its nearly as old as aviation itself :o ;)

Hi Ozzy

Not too quick with the clues  ;)  I only just found the thread and was going to guess WWI European.......

The 'wreath' looked German/Prussian and the bird also made me think that way........

The crown suggests a King (or Emperor)

But the lettering ......well, the E might suggest French but I think not..........

Looking again, I think that those are oak leaves on the wreath - which I know the Germans used to symbolise
'strength'......

Also the E could be an F - which might be for 'Flieger'....

So I guess something to do with the German Army Air Force in WWI  ::)

Hi Ozzy

Thanks  ;).

Unfortunately, insignia is not my chosen subject and I have no reference material on it. So I have been relying on my 'general knowledge' so far.

Lets hope that some-one can turn my 'v.warm' into 'red hot'  ;D

Cheers Paul
