Out & about 3

Postby Hagar » Mon Nov 24, 2003 3:35 pm

Enough sunshine for now & back to this morning. This shot was taken from the shingle beach looking west from Goring Gap towards Ferring. We do have plenty of sand when the tide goes out. The large building is now a care home. On a clear day you can see the Isle of Wight from here. It was difficult to make out the horizon today.

I drove towards the care home before heading north. At the top of the road I turned left into the village of Ferring. This is the first thing you see. There don't seem many names until you realise that Ferring was only a tiny village until it was developed after WWII. The poppy wreaths are still in place from Nov 11th as they will remain until they look tatty.

Opposite the war memorial is this garage. The name will be familar to any motor enthusiast. Sadly, the great John Cooper died a couple of years ago. The business is now run by his son.

This traditional brick & flint cottage is for sale if you're interested. ;)

That's it for now. I then headed for some old childhood haunts.

PS. I forgot to mention that Ferring is unusual in that, except for on the main road through the village, there are no street lights.

I desperately want to visit Europe.

Seems to be a complete 180 degree from what I have seen here in the USA. Not knocking what we have here, but as a visual artist, olde countries like the UK seem to have such a romantic quality to them

Thanks SaVas. I'm sure we can all do with a change of scenery once in a while. I've seen some wonderful sights in the US during several visits to different parts of your huge country. These are equally as fascinating to me.

Don't forget, I'm showing you the nicer parts of my home. There are plenty of sights like these if you know where to look. Taking these photos has helped opened my eyes to appreciate what I have even more. On the other hand, there's a lot you would rather not see.

PS. Oops. Sorry Pippin. Looks like we did it again.
I have no desire to upset anyone. I'll stop posting my photos if you wish. ;)

I have no idea Ozzy. I shall make it my business to find out. You can bet your boots it will be expensive. In this area they could almost name their price.
