Here's what I saw when I ventured outside to go for breakfast this morning.



The road was closed so I decided to investigate further. Fortunately the occupants were out at the time. Imagine coming home to find this. One of my worst nightmares come true.






This is what's left several hours later.

Apart from the obvious surprise the occupants have received, those are good photos, H, nice clarity and detail.

Yeah, I am sure they have value for the insurance company, maybe as some sort of proof.

I hope they have got insurance  ;)

What caused the fire?

I hope they were insured although the place is gutted. If they're anything like me it's quite likely all documents including insurance policies were destroyed. This timely warning has made me reconsider my own haphazard filing system to make sure all important documents are in a safe place in future.

I have no idea what caused it yet. Most likely the owners don't know either.

This is due to the quality of my camera rather than my questionable skills as a photographer. I simply point it at the subject & press the button. Mind you, I am getting better at composing my shots as I get used to it.

 does your camera have a preview screen on it??

Thanks Craig. Yes it has a preview screen. What I like about it is that you can see it in direct sunlight. It also has a conventional viewfinder, zoom & automatic flash. Much better than my old Casio. It cost lot more than this one when I bought it several years ago. You use the LCD screen to take the shots (useless in bright light) & the image quality is very poor. Digital cameras have certainly come a long way in a short time.

Thanks for the info, those shots sort of make me rethink which camera to get:) thing is in a way, i would like zoom for things like airshows, but then again all digital cameras are a pain to get used to for action shot due to the delay.
but def quality there makes me think twice on which to get:)

and those shots also make you rethink where you keep important documents, and the fire alarm batterys.

All the modern cameras I've seen have similar features. Some are better quality than mine with higher resolution & 6x zoom. Mine is simple to use while others are more complicated. In the end the decision is down to you. Nobody can help you there. I suggest you check out as many as possible within your price range & choose the one that suits your particular requirements.

Just out of interest what programme/process do you use for your shots?.Have just gone into digi and would appreciate any advice

Hi Aeronut. I use the FinePixViewer software that came bundled with my Fuji camera to save the images to my HD in JPEG format. I then edit/resize as necessary with PSP7. The above shots are unedited apart from resizing. I might have reduced the file size further with IrfanView.

I like the expression on the kids face in the second to last pic.

Looks like it didn't spread too far, but then again the house wasn't that big either. Where do you live?

That's sad.  I've never had a serious fire, but I can imagine what it's like to lose everything.  I feel for those people.

Jesster. The bungalow was completely gutted. I feel for them too. I live in Worthing on the south coast of England. Often referred to as the Costa Geriatrica.  8).

It looks smaller than it is, a bit like Dr Who's Tardis.  :)
