As for rejecting for no reason I've never found that to happen, problem is, there's loads of people biased against A.net whether it be because they can't get anything on in the first place or just can't take a rejection (no digs at you here by the way Doug). So many of them spread bad (false) rumorus.
I would hope not.
I know my limitations & would never upload any of my photos to Anet in the first place, even if I thought they were good enough. I take them purely for my own pleasure & I've never been the competitive type. 
Well, my photo wasn't up to their standards as far as quality went. Remember, it doesn't matter whether one shot is terminally boring and the other is 'exciting', if the technical aspect is good on the boring shot but not on the 'exciting' then that's what they judge by.
I'm an enthusiast & can't see anything special about that photo at all. The aircraft is a common sight at Popham & the composition is nothing to write home about.







Let alone it was one of the "shots of the day" :-/
