Hi Doug:

It has been a while since I flew several of these types but do you remember if:

Tiger Moth...did it not have a front wooden spar?

Chipmunk ...I know it was first produced with a front
wooden spar and the rear half of the wing
was fabric.  Fuel guages in wing caps.

DHC-1 "Chipmunk"...metal spars and all metal wings

Fleet 80 "Canuck"...I am sure they had wooden spars
and were fabric covered...not sure if they
put a metal spar in or not later.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Doug. If I remember correctly the Tiger Moth has all wooden wings, fabric covered of course. I helped recover a complete aircraft once. That was a lovely job in the Summer out in the fresh air. ;)

You're correct about the Chipmunk. Not sure about the Fleet Canuck. Can't say I've ever seen one.

Fleet 80 Canuck was a lovely aeroplane and good tail dragging trainer.  The seating was side by side with  two control sticks and not a yoke. ;)

A perfect bugsmasher on skis, wheels or floats. :) You would love it.

It would be hard to compare anything with the old "Tiger" as she was in a class all her own. :)  ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Thanks Doug. I know most of the Fleet range of aircraft & very nice they look too. I've heard of the Canuck but ashamed to admit that I don't remember seeing even a picture of one before. I had no idea it was a high-wing aircraft. It looks very much like an Auster although they were of all-metal fabric-covered construction. A neat little aeroplane. http://www.aviation.technomuses.ca/collections/artifacts/aircraft/Fleet80Canuck.shtml

Hi Doug:

Try "Canada Aviation Museum" as a site.
Click on "Image Bank" and go from there.
It has an alphabetical listing with a lot of actual aircraft.

There should be 5 or 6 pages of pictures of many aircraft like the Otter or Fleet 80 Canuck.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Doug. If you check the link from my previous reply you will see that's exactly what I did. Well, to tell the truth I googled it.:D

I have a large library of reference books & aviation magazines but I've never thought to look up the Canuck before.

If you mean the Hornet Moth it's basically a cabin version of the Gipsy Moth. The original versions had tapered wings more like the DH Dragon & could apparently be a tad tricky to handle. The later versions like this one are supposed to be a great improvement.

I'm surprised that nobody's noticed the main leg fairings in my photo. These can be twisted at 90 degrees to the airflow to act as a form of airbrake. The Hornet Moth has no flaps.
