Many British military types are named after towns. Most Percival aircraft names started with the letter P. So there you have it. Quite logical really.

Lancaster, Lincoln, Manchester, Stranraer, Southampton, Warwick, Windsor, Henley to name but a few...

Could've been worse...

How about the MB Melton-Mobray or Milton Keynes, or the Bristol Bath (how confusing)

Could've even had the Percival Pratts-Bottom - a place that wasn't too far away from one of Percival's pre-war haunts at Gravesend.

Milton Keynes is one of them New Towns. Built on land around Bletchley Park. It was only a tiny village when MB was manufacturing aircraft.

It would be interesting to make a list of all British aircraft named after towns. I'm sure there's quite a few silly ones.

Yes, but it is painted as a Mk21 and I'd rather someone do a 21 for FS than an un-authentic re-paint Paul Rebuffat has a MkXIV in this sceme on his web site.

Good poit Charlie old chap. And besides all that, I still think RN201 is the finest flying Spitfire I have ever seen, just awesome.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad I posted these now.

Charlie does have a good point. I usually prefer authentic markings but those 2 immaculate red & silver Spits are probably my own favourites on the display circuit. It makes a nice change see something a little different without spoiling those classic lines.
