So much joy!.... ....!

A familiar, daily sight for me for the past 20 years, in all my various Flight Sims, since Flight Unlimited II!

The most wonderful bridge in the whole World!

I even have one of my prized books: "Golden Gate Bridge. History and design of an Icon", by Ronald Macdonald and Ira Hadel.
ISBN: 978-0-8118-6337-7

A collection of Photo's to add to my special USA Scenery Library!

Many thanks!

A delight for all Golden Gate Bridge enthusiasts...>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvmqbQ0SI6o

Dats not the Golden Gate Bridge

Why that's the Red Gate Bridge , see it painted Red , not Gold !!!!

If the Bridge was truly made out of Gold, do ya really think it still be standing there, with all the Thieves & Thugs we have around now days ??? :D

Yip,,, I actually been across that Bridge several times on my way down to downtown SF for deliveries in the financial district in an 18 wheeler, ohh was that Fun in the day time with traffic.

I usually came down out of seattle, loaded with Christmas trees for that merry time of year to the merchants who were selling those Trees from the northwest.

I never did get to meet that 1 person I always wanted to meet tho, San Francisco's finest , Inspector Callahan , aka - Dirty Harry !!!

Thanks gents................

The last time I was there, I had the opportunity to ride my mtn bike over the GG span.........westside of the bridge is for bikes, east side for pedestrians..........looking over the side, it's a long way down !!
I have some shots when I rode, and if I can locate them since my move, I'll post them eh.........

The one and only time I saw the Golden Gate bridge was from the bottom looking up as the ship my squadron was embarked on ( U.S.S. Tripoli, LPH-10) sailed under it back in '85. Even more impressive from water level.

If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

I agree.............used to head out the Gate and fish for Albacore, Rock Fish, and Salmon many many times...........even at night, which is very surreal......

Had a trusty camera with me the first time, we were swamped by a sleeper wave......only loss was my camera, never took one again....

Takes me back to being 7 years old and living in Cal. I remember taking the tour and them telling me it took 7 years to paint from one end to the other, by which time they had to start all over again.
Amazing bridge (my favourite one for looping as some may remember)...

I never cease to be amazed at the skill of the designers and builders of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Everyone knew exactly what needed top be done, and everything worked like clockwork.
Safety nets placed under the construction to catch anyone unfortunate enough to fall!
Just imagine the amount of rivets required to be hammered into place!
..and the construction of the suspension cables!
Everything about the bridge fills me with appreciation of all those involved, all those many years ago (the day I was born)!
Engineering at its finest, and an object of great beauty!

A few years ago, Mrs Expat and I were visiting the relatives in the Bay Area. We went to the Golden Gate Park and whist there though it would be a nice experience to walk over the bridge. Nice views etc, wind in your hair.......The views were stunning, the walk, a couple of miles when you do it properly, but it was noisy and windy, no, it was very, very noisy and windy and I am pretty sure I breathed in more carbon monoxide that day than I had in my entire life up to that point....and my ears are still ringing to this day..... Still, we are glad we did it..

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
