Air Force One pics

Postby Aerophile » Tue Jun 05, 2007 7:19 pm

President Bush routinely flies into my airport to visit his ranch in Crawford, TX.  Sometimes I'll get locked into the flight school building, where i work, by the secret service and watch through a double paned window as he arrives in Air Force One (the first 4 pics).

One time as I was sitting at the table watching him fly in on his helicopter and a secret service officer walks up to me and a group of students, saw my camera on the table, and asked whose it was as if he didn't want anyone taking pictures and as if he was going to confiscate it.  Everyone around me quickly denied ownership of the camera (now this guy had arms as big around as my thighs).  I told him it was mine and that I would put it away if he wanted me to.  Surprisingly, he asked if I wanted to go out with the press and take pictures outside. I of course got out there and was able to snap just two or three pics (of which included the last two posted here) before my camera battery died.  Go figure.  Anyway, without further ado...

Oh, and by the way, if its not too much to ask please keep your political views to a minimum.  I've posted some of these in forums before where it segues into a round and round political discussion.

HA!  I was wondering if someone might bring that up.  :D  I use a Kodak Z740 5MP 10X optical digital camera.  I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to edit photos.  Hopefully, pretty soon I will have saved enough spare change to buy Photoshop.

btw, I like your avatar.  I think Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail is one of the best movies out there.

Yeah afraid so.  One time I was stuck in there for several hours while they were anticipating his arrival.  Eventually he showed up and I was able to leave after that.  Once, one of the instructors I worked with opened a door with his silver camera in his hand and in no time several secret servicemen where there pointing guns at him.

It'll be a while before I can afford one of those.  :-[  I'll have to wait until I'm a captain with a regional airline more than likely.

First of all, it's not Barb, it's his wife, Laura. Here in the good ol' USA, a  man is allowed to grab his wife's tush in public, even if he is the President.  :D

And second: I really, really really don't want to think about their sex life. Okay?   :-/

:D

Anyhoo, terrific shots of  the First 747... always looking good no matter what she's hauling. ;)

Very nice pictures.
Don't ask my why, and I know that they are real and a they are once in a life time shots, but numbers two and three look like you have been very cleaver with a model 747, got down on your belly used a very large F-stop and made a diorama for her I think you get this effect because of the perspective and also that Air Force One always looks like she came out of the box moments before.

Matt

PS This is not a criticism, it is a complement, very nice pictures.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

That's funny you mention that.  I was thinking the same thing when I was working with the photo. I think it's the distance that gives it that effect and the fact that we have all this tarmac with almost nothing on the east side of it to give you any reference.  If there was a terminal or FBO back there or something it would probably help with the depth perception.
