Float planes! (part 1)

Postby TacitBlue » Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:01 pm

I showed off a picture in one of Doug's (Flying Trucker) threads and he asked to see more. So, for Doug and for anyone else who would like to see what I photographed at the seaplane base at EAA Airventure in 2005 and 2010, here's some pics with a little commentary.

Image
Taken in '05. An Avions Mignet. It's a weird little plane and I love weird planes.

Image
Taken in '05. John Knapp Avid Flyer. Don't know a whole lot about it, I've never gotten around to doing the research.

Image
Taken in '05. Russian Beriev Be-103. It's one of my favorite flying boats, I just love the way it looks.

Image
Taken in '05. Republic Seabee done up in US Navy colors. There's bad-ugly and good-ugly, this is good-ugly.

Image
Taken in '10. A Cessna 120. You don't see to many 120's around let alone one on floats.

Part II is coming in a minute or two. ;)

Ultralights on floats, a Beriev, and a Seabee, can't ask for much more in one post. Great shots. :)

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Thanks for the links. You can definitely see the resemblance between the Balerit and the Flying Flea.

"Good ugly"... thanks, I finally have the correct phrase to use in defense of my love for the Seabee.  ;D

Great looking photos Tacitblue, Thanks for the view. I had to go back 14 pages to find a really shiny Seabee. They look like they are unsinkable. To land on water.. cut power and close eyes!
