Watch out you pigeons!

Postby Hagar » Fri Jun 18, 2010 5:48 pm

I went over to Chichester today to try & get some pics of the Peregrine chicks in the air. The parents have been returning to raise a new family in a turret high up on the Cathedral tower every year since 2002. Four chicks again this year, two males & two females. They've only been flying for a few days & already look pretty menacing.

These shots were taken hand-held at very long range & turned out better than I expected.

PS. This is the Cathedral.

They don't seem to know for certain. Here's the website. http://www.chichesterperegrines.co.uk/info.htm

:o
Stunning shots of the peregrines! They seem to be doing very well. :)
And this latest "postcard" of the cathedral is even better than the last one I saw.

Really nice shots Doug. I could do with these beauties in my garden. Germany has a real pigeon problem this year, these seem to be so many more this year than last.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

We suffer an on-going problem with (Land?) Gulls, even though we are at least 50 miles inland from the sea!.... >:(...!

Their noise, and constant dive-bombing, and mess, is extremely annoying.

Every now and again their presence diminishes somewhat... ::)..!

Probably a bit too large for a Peregrine Falcon to cope with, but...

...I think someone goes out every now and again and shoots the bloody things!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

"Sea Gulls"..... a very good reason NOT to live near the sea-side...;)...!

Pigeons in the town centre are another big problem. (Folks are encouraged/instructed NOT to feed them!).

Paul....Blackbirds and Song Thrushes, I love!... :-*...!

..."A bird in the hand.....".....makes a tasty Dinner!... ;)...!

The blasted things were in large evidence in my hometown, which is 30 miles east of Reno, NV and about 200 from San Franfreako. They were at a truckstop that has since closed. The grain trucks would leak a bit of grain, and the gulls would come in en masse. How I would have loved to have taken my .22 out there and reduced their numbers. It would have been like shootin' fish in a barrel...

Wonderful action shots Doug! Really shows your skill, carefully mastered during all those airshows... ;-)

I see one of these birds, or some sort of hawk, from time to time in my garden, tearing an unfortunate pigeon apart. But these predators are so beautiful.
